tap tap…Is this thing on?

I think a LOT more often than we mean to, we assume people know what they are doing when it comes to praying since it essentially is talking to someone. We assume that their abilities conversing translates into being able to pray. Being able to talk/converse is not the same as knowing how to pray. I have found that people don’t know how to pray because no one takes the time to breakdown what prayer truly is. There is a skill to praying that can be taught so that this can be something that becomes a tool in creating the relationship between them and Christ. The bible says that God listens to us all the time whether we have a perfectly coordinated and thought out prayer or just the everyday thoughts that we may not be too proud of. God knows you for exactly who you are when He first knit you together in your mother’s womb.

What is Prayer?

Prayer is a time that you set out specially for a conversation with God just like meaking an intentional call to your Dad or a friend . Either person you are calling with theintent of talking with then and maybe even having a problem to ask for advice or talking thorugh plans you have/had.

But wont I be talking to myself….?

This is true at some point in time you may choose to do something that makes your prayers more advertising/ animated. This is all up to you and God.

How do I know if I am done?

You can be done praying at anytime. There is a time and place for every kind of prayer from 30 seconds to weeks and on. You will know just like in any other conversation. You run out of things to say or discuss which is when you pause to listen for a response. When you are trying to listen for a response from God be sure to get rid of all extra distractions and noise in order to hear your almighty father.

What do I say…..?

Anything and Everything.

There is nothing you can say that He doesn’t understand. Say it all. Dont let it become daunting. Just start with one topic at a time and your mind will fill in the gaps. If you don’t even know how to start talking to God; stop worrying. I promise that is one of the things that is the least concerning. Just start. You do not have to say some magic words to start and stop the prayer. You could even talk in your mind to God about things throughout the day. Our God, wants to hear from us in any form that comes in and he wants to spend time with us like a good friend. If you want a more discerning time of starting just say what you would to a friend or father figure. Whatever feels right to you because that is why our God is so awesome we each have our own unique and individually personal relationship with our Lord and Savior. I personally start with… Dear Heavenly Father. or Dear Lord, Hey God, Jesus, Dear Jesus, whatever is right for your personal unique relationship.
