What I have learned in my 26 years on this Earth.
Coming from the other side of my twenty- sixth birthday, I am processing through some of the things I have learned over the years. There have been a few specific instances where I have learned so much. Things that I wish I had known earlier on. I felt like I needed to write them down for someone else. Just so that maybe, with just a glimmer of luck someone out there would read this and resonate allowing them to feel validated and stronger.
Boundaries are not a suggestion and enforcing them is not inappropriate or rude. When you bring up boundaries with a friend you are telling them that you value their friendship and want it to continue and therefore need 1,2, & 3 to change.
Set the precedent that you want early. Before traditions get set that will build resentment.
There is no score board in life.
People will struggle when they see you succeed; do not take it personally.
Surround yourself with people who you can pray for but will also go to war for you in prayer.
People are going to judge you no matter what you do; dont let it affect your life choices.
Respect goes both ways. Parent to child; Child to Parent and every other relationship.
Doctor’s are hired and you are the one interviewing them. Don’t let them trick you into thinking that they have all the power.
Your husband (spouse) is not a mind reader so just tell them what you want or are needing.
Don’t let hurts fester before telling people how you are feeling. All you are accomplishing is a heart of resentment on your end and confusion on theirs. Let them have a chance to fix it before you start becoming angry with them.
Dont be afraid to learn from people you may not enjoy. Just because you don’t enjoy them doesn’t mean you can’t learn something of value from them.
God is who you answer to; not the world.
You may feel lonely at times. That’s okay. That may be the sign you need to get back into your Bible and talk with God.
You will never have everything. There will always be something new that you NEED to have. If you are in a season of struggle with this give it to God.
Anything or anyone living by “do what makes you happy” is a red flag. Life is hard and things you will have to do will not always make you happy.
Happiness on this earth is a delusion if you aren’t living for Christ.
People do not care nearly as much as you think they do. Especially when it comes to just being yourself and having a good time in public.
Stop letting non existent peer pressure dictate your life. Yes, some of your friends are married. Yes, some of them have kids. Yes, some of them have wild friday nights or weekends.. that doesn’t mean you have too.
Dont be afraid to touch base with friends and family and ask if there is anything that needs to be worked on in your relationship. Afterall, if you want the relationship to continue happily this is essential.
Dont be afraid of criticism. It isnt personal unless you make it personal.
Etiquiette is still so very important. Don’t let the world over simplify your life to where manners and etiquette are completely non existent.
Celebrate the small things in life. Life is hard and exhausting find excuses to bring joy into an average week night.
Don’t engage with hysterics. There are going to be times when someone in your close circle gets irrationally upset and nothing you say is going to make any difference. This is not the time to try to fix it. Give them space, even if that means ignoring them, let them calm down and revisit the situation at another time.
Just because you don’t see the work someone is doing does NOT mean they aren’t doing as much as you are.
What you watch, what you listen to, what you surround youself with will shape who you are. Don’t get too comfortable in your ability to be around the wrong things and not change.
Spiritual warfare is real. The name of Jesus is powerful and satan can not stay in a room where His name is spoken. I am a child of Jesus Christ and satan you have no power here.
